Cordoba (Qurtubah in Arabic) was the cosmopolitan capital of Andalucia (al-Andalus), the great and prosperous period of Islamic Civilization in Spain between 750 C.E-1250. Known as ‘Convivencia,’ it was a golden period of co-existence between Muslims, Jews, Christians, and other faiths under the rule of Islam. During this period, Islam experienced one of its most prosperous civilizational eras with remarkable social cohesion, co-existence between faith communities, thriving cosmopolitan cities, abundance of wealth, healthcare, and social welfare, and a large number of scholars, books, public universities, public gardens, and public libraries, which would positively influence Europe. To this day, the artistic and architectural legacy of al-Andalus is a living testimony of the glory of this period. It was a period of deep commitment to Islam with a simultaneous commitment to creating a wealthy, stable, and multi-faith society for all, Muslims and non-Muslims included.
Cordoba Tutoring is inspired by this exemplary period in Islamic history and takes it as an inspiration for its vision of a curriculum that is rooted in Islam and its civilization but open toward engaging with other cultures, faiths, and communities in a spirit of openness (infitah), compassion (rahmah), and mutual understanding (ta‘aaruf).
